Welcome Baby Brogan!

Grandma Becky (Jake's mom), me, Jake, and Brogan

One week ago today I was at a funeral for a good family friend.

Today, Diane gave birth to Brogan. He's the most precious baby boy in the whole f**king world! Jake is an uncle, and I can't deny my pleasure in being called "Aunt Whitney" at the hospital this morning.

So, in a split second life begins. Just as quickly it can end. It's making the most of the time between those two moments that matters.

This poem was on a card at Ceil's funeral. I thought of it this morning. It's the best advice I can offer a baby. Hopefully someday (when he understands English) he'll get the idea:

Count your garden by the flowers,

Never by the leaves that fall.

Count your days by the golden hours,

Don't remember clouds at all.

Count the nights by the stars, not shadwos.

Count your life by smiles, not tears.

And with joy on every birthday,

Count your age by friends, not years.

CONGRATS WHITNEY!!!! As of right now... everything changes, even for you. All of a sudden the death penalty for pedophiles seems perfect, the health care system and public school systems will be a huge focus ... if it wasn't already - the rainforest will come to the forefront as well. Anything that might directly or indirectly affect sweet baby Brogan is now important.

He's one lucky baby to have such a huge support system as your family. It's a lovely photo. Congrats again. Now you'll need to check Savvy Auntie on Twitter. She has great auntie type of advice to give. : )
